Shielded Enclosures

RFI Industries, has the capability to design, manufacture, install and test any type of R.F. Shielded Enclosure that may be required. Our shielded enclosure installations have ranged from surgery complexes, M.R.I. rooms and operating theatres in hospitals to communications centres, test laboratories, small bench top models for laboratory use, computer centres, secure conference rooms and large complexes for military vehicle testing. 

The enclosure may be of the standard modular construction S800 series, all welded sheet steel custom built on location or a special small instrument cabinet. Let us design and manufacture to meet your special needs.

S800 Enclosures

The S800 series enclosure is fully demountable, prefabricated panel construction, capable of being erected, disassembled, shipped and re-erected entirely from its interior without special tools. The panels are joined by a steel framing system designed to provide electrically conductive joints between panels and provide the attenuation specified. The finished installation is rigid in construction, does not require soldering or welding and will not interfere with the application of wall, floor or ceiling finishes. 

All materials and accessories necessary to complete the specified enclosure are provided and include:

Modular Enclosures

Research and development by RFI engineers has resulted in products which are entirely manufactured on company premises. The RFI modular enclosure offers the high performance and reliability required by Government and the electronics industry. 

The RFI S800 model, based on a range of interchangeable panels which can readily be installed, modified or expanded, incorporates the latest techniques and developments in shielding engineering. Modular rooms can be easily installed in enclosed areas utilising a free standing framing system which allows erection from inside the enclosure. 

Rigid steel clad, laminated structural panels framed with cold rolled sections form the modular S800 RF shielded enclosures. The S800 series meets 80 per cent of all R.F. shielding requirements. It offers the best attenuation to magnetic fields for the metal thickness used and provides excellent performance for electric fields and plane waves. 

Standard Enclosures

Standard enclosures can be supplied for heights of 2.47m, 3.04m and 3.64m. For special needs different heights, shapes and sizes can be supplied to customer requirement. 

Typical high performance attenuation (based on MIL-STD-285 and NSA 65-6 tests) is a minimum of 100dB from 10KHz through to 10GHz in the electric and plane wave fields and 70dB to magnetic fields at 14KHz rising to 100dB at 1MHz and beyond. Higher performances can be designed. Since specifying performances higher than are necessary will increase the final cost of the installation, it is recommended that you CAREFULLY SPECIFY YOUR NEED. 

Custom Enclosures

Although RFI's S800 enclosures are flexible systems well suited for all types of applications, rooms of complicated configurations will need special consideration. RFI will construct an in situ, all welded shielded room where the shielding can follow the contours of the walls and ceiling of the host building. RFI has built many all welded steel enclosures, some incorporating extremely large doors to accommodate the passage of amphibious vehicles, military tanks and large generating equipment. 

Three Metre Semi-Anechoic Test Chamber

RFI Industries has produced the Model TC800-3M test chamber as an economical package for product immunity testing and radiated emission testing on a 3 metre range. 

This modular facility, unlike an outdoor site, does not have the problems of ambient signal level variations, changing weather conditions or expensive real estate. 

The chamber features our well known modular shielded enclosure fitted out with high performance hybrid ferrite/foam absorber. The chamber fit-out includes a raised ground plane fitted with integral turntable, scanning mast and remote controller. 

After installation, RFI Industries will conduct site testing to provide full characterisation of the facility. Data provided will include field uniformity levels and site attenuation figures. 

Radiated Emission Testing

As specified in ANSI C63-4 1992, RFI will guarantee normalised site attenuation of 4 dB at a 3 metre range length over the frequency range of 30 MHz to 1 GHz. 

The quiet zone at 3 metres is a 1.5 metre diameter cylinder between 1 and 2 metres in elevation centred over the turntable.

Radiated Immunity Testing

RFI's EMC chamber exceeds the frequency range specified by IEC 1000-4-3, providing field uniformity of 0 to +6dB at 3 metre range lengths over the ultra-broadband frequency range of 26 MHz to 18 GHz. 

The hybrid ferrite-foam absorber will safely withstand continuous field intensity up to 200 V/m. 

The test aperture is a vertical plane of 1.5m x 1.5m located 0.8m to 2.3m above the floor.
