Shielding

For M.R.I. Systems which produce large unenclosed magnetic fields, it is essential to install a shielded enclosure fabricated from non-ferrous materials.

For M.R.I. Systems which have low magnetic fields or enclosed magnets which contain the magnetic field, then the shielded enclosure can be fabricated from ferrous materials.

Shielded Rooms for Electron Microscopes

RFI Industries offers a range of standard modular magnetic shielded rooms of typical sizes 3.0 x 4.0m with heights of 3.0m and above.

The shielding panels are laminated with a number of layers of high permeability steel to achieve the desired shielding capability. Special considerations in design are given to door entries, ventilation, lighting, power and cable penetrations, together with vibration mounting requirements.

Modular Shielded Enclosures

RFI Industries has designed a series of modular enclosures so suit all types of M.R.I. Installations. RFI believes that it is more economic to produce a modular enclosure which can be installed on site in days in preference to the insitu construction that may take many weeks to erect.

The RFI S900 series can be supplied in all steel or all copper, or a combination of steel and copper such as steel walls and ceiling with a copper floor. The enclosure is fully demountable, prefabricated panel construction, capable of being erected or disassembled entirely from its interior without special tools. The panels are joined by a framing system designed to provide electrically conductive joints between panels and provide the attenuation specified. The finished installation is rigid and free standing.

Non-Ferrous Shielding

For M.R.I. systems where non-ferrous shielding is required, RFI has developed two major methods. The first method utilises stainless steel materials which can be fabricated into our standard S900 modular system.

The second method utilises copper that can also be fabricated into the modular system or as a standard building material in "INSITU" shielding.

In-Situ Copper Shielding

RFI's architects and engineers have developed an excellent system of integrating copper shielding into Hospitals and Medical Centres during the building phase. Copper foil is laid up on the walls, fixed and seam joined specifically to achieve high R.F. shielding integrity. All doors, vents, windows and penetrations are manufactured from copper or brass to maintain non-ferrous continuity.

The internal finishes are applied to a free standing partition wall which protects the shield. To enhance the decor, finishes may be in plasterboard, wall paper or acoustic materials .
